RARE SIGHT

10-20-13

High pressure has moved back into the region, leaving us in a dry pattern with warming daytime temps and a forecast that will remain the same for while.  Folks have been making turns up on the higher elevations, but the lower elevations are too thin to deal with.  The pattern will change and give us the cover we need to get this party stated.  In the mean time the Tram Crew has been busy replacing the Haul Cables in preperation for the season.  This process brings an interesting situation, where both Trams are parked in the lower dock.  This is a very rare sight indeed as it only happens when they do this change out.  I have no idea how this is accomplished, but they were working hard on the project with some very fancy pulling purchases and full court press on the work at hand.  Fun to watch from a distance.  Soon we will be rocking the laps getting the kinks out and dialing in the stoke.  Hope you are ready for fun.  Be sure to get your copy of Snowbird Secrets today, and get a psychic jump on the season.  IBBY!!DSC01604DSC01606

FIRST GLIMPS

10-05-13

I took a Tram to the peak today and I thought I would just give a quick report on the new installment.  The hill looks very nice all flocked with fresh Essence,-21 but there is just enough to cover the ground and there is no real accumulation to speak of, with the exception of the Upper Silverfox section that seems to have received some wind accumulation.  It was great to see the return of the Essence from it’s long cycle to once again deliver a fresh new  season of Goodness.  Here is a shot taken by my friend Dave Askew, who hiked up yesterday and got this look at the new freshness with the Peak Terminal backed by clear blue sky.  Looks so good to see the pristine  addition to the hill to kick things off.  I have not seen a forecast for the last couple of days, but I am hoping we are in a regular pattern, so the momentum will keep building.  Thanks for the shot Dave.  IBBY!!!

IT BEGINS

10-04-13

A very cold air mass moved into the Wasatch Front last night that brought some new freshness to the hills.  The lion’s share of the precipitation went North, which kept the accumulation here just marginal.  It certainly is nice to see the pattern changing, and I hope it keeps coming, as to avoid a bad layer as the season gets rolling.  I am always reticent to see early snow as it seems to turn off when we really need it, but we will take what we get and love it.  Here is a shot of the Salt Lake Twins with the dusting taken from the Valley.  Soon the hills will be filling in and we will be hitting the hill before long.  It seems like yesterday that we were poised for the season last year.  Time flies and it seemed as if the Summer blew by in a hurry.  The Gad 2 Chair is coming along nicely and on track to open on schedule.  New slope profiles have been created over above the lower terminal, making a nice long steep uninterrupted line, and that will be a very nice addition to the terrain features over on that side of the hill.  .  New snow making has been added to the upper section of Election, so the cover will be much improved, giving it a much earlier pack.  Got to love the snow making.  Well, here we are, I hope you are all as stoked as I am for the season.  Will be posting much more regularly now as we slide to the opening with up today info.  Be sure to get in on Octoberfest that is going on every weekend.  They have great beer, activities, music and a large venders area to shop at.  Keep visualizing deep thoughts and check back for up dates.  Stay Frosty.  DSC01595
