It was just a touch warmer today with a peak temp of 18 degrees, and a stout North wind transporting snow to the some of the big lines.   The Groomers were buffed with a full Winter, dry, chalky feel that demanded the fall line.  The Big Smooth had been prepared and “Smooth” was ripping it up on his new sticks and getting all of it. It was fun watching him uncork it!  The wind loaded lines out in Mineral Basin were as good as it gets, with the wind refreshing the line after each turn.  The cold kept the snow from deterioration despite the Spring sun, and the wind kept any ambient heat from accumulating.  It was not until 3:00PM that some of the lower mountain aprons started to soften up with the radiant warming.  The High North was really refreshed with this last storm, and the interference patterns have melted back into the snow pack, giving forgotten lines new life with wind smoothed goodness.  Tomorrow, look for a fast moving system to deliver some weather in the AM, and with the hill in such good shape, any accumulation will only improve the already Winter feel.   Only the West facing had morphed, after yesterday’s powder frenzy,  into a more challenging aspect.  Look for those wind loaded lines from today to be the go to choice if the visibility in not optimum.  The Free Ride Championship is being held this weekend, so be sure to check it out as you drive by the Venue on the hill.  I was watching some of the talent working the hill today, and it should be quite an event.  See you in the AM. for more Winter wonder as we defy the Spring thaw.  Here is a shot of that center face on the Twins with the wind worked patterns defined by the morning Sun.
