WIDE OPEN

The fog of inversion engulfed the trailer the is morning, leaving the antenna array covered in a frosted coating.  Up on the hill a clear and cold morning greeted the light turn out for the first Boat.  The Groomers were very nice and the Cat Work out in Mineral Basin was punctuated by the  nice clear Sun rise.  Off trail is getting a bit stiff and sojourns off the beaten path will encounter  rumble and variable consistency.  The wind was blowing and getting a bit stout as the day wore on, making a couple of the guts start filling with dust.  The High North is beginning to show signs of high traffic, though there is some dust filling the troughs to cushion the lines a bit.  Tomorrow, look for the wind to have worked during the night, and the transported snow might offer some wind deposited slab that will be icing on the cake.  New lower mountain sections have been machine worked, with some unconventional lines cut, so look for these little gifts of corduroy magic.  Top to bottom, back to back, wide open ripping can be dialed inDSC01259 with the low on the hill traffic. The high pressure persists and the day warms up in the afternoon, though the wind kept the ambient temps from rising too high. Be sure to watch out for Black Ice in the canyon during this inversion, as there are some sections of the snow bank that have been tagged in the lower Canyon.  Here is a shot of the Life Flight Chopper taking off from the peak on it’s way to a back country rescue.  Very cool to be so close to the action.  IBBY!!!
