FRESH FROSTING

12-03-14 by dave

This morning’s opening bell offered 3” of dense, cold, frosting that stuck nicely to the firm layer below.  The first few runs were great on both sides of the hill, with the apron under the Middle Cirque offering low angle, smooth, un tracked lines that felt like heaven.  I was able to make consistently full on turns without any slarve, smear, or shwag.   Nice touch for the morning session.  Visibility was variable with the continuous light precipitation that built up slowly all day.  With the high density of the new snow, the traffic whipped up some ratchet chop that required a more deliberate approach to add more punch to the turn.  Here is a shot of Mineral Basin as it’s covered with this fresh coat.  I am still anxiously awaiting the season’s opening of this area.  It is a whole other dimension.  DSC02316Tomorrow, look for perhaps some light accumulation, though the sky is clearing out now and not much is in the forecast for the next few days.  The Groomers will be extra consistent as this new product gets mixed into the mat.  Off trail is still holding the interference patterns in the guts, and that is not going to go away until we get some wind to fill it in.  Traffic is light, so back to back laps are easy to make, but no dallying allowed if you are going to get each cabin.  Be sure to be checking out the visible features so you will know where these features are when they get all covered.  I have been burning it into my brain.  Look for more great Training Runs on tap  so we can get dialed for when things go off.   IBBY!!
