FIRST DUSTING

10-01-14 by dave

We have had a long stretch of precipitation for the last week or so, and ,with the recent cold front moving through, snow was finally evident up on the upper elevations.  There was not a lot of accumulation, but just enough to get the juices flowing for things to come.  Here is a shot of the the upper Silver Fox area below the cloud deck that was showing the new dusting.   It was quite cold on the peak and I was woefully under dressed for the occasion.  Doh!!DSC02266I wanted to get a look at the new snow and the progress on the new peak facility.  Work is moving along briskly, but this weather might slow things down a bit, but the floors are going on and more steel is going up on the South end of the structure.  These are some adverse conditions in which to work.  DSC02268I am excited to see this building completed and hang out in the big glass surrounds that it will feature.  There will be an entrance right off the Tram dock, so you can duck in out of the wind and weather when things get dicey.  That will be a nice feature.   I went up to Oktoberfest two weeks ago to enjoy the festivities and look at the colors on the hill.  Here is a shot of the aspens on the lower section of the Gad Valley, which look very vibrant.  The colors are coming out all over the hill and it is worth the time to check it out.  DSC02263Here is a shot of the Uni Mog that is the Snowbird Mascot so to speak, packed with kegs of beer for the fall celebration.  I love how they restored this vehicle and made it live.  Nice touch.  DSC02261Be sure to get up to the hill for these last two weekends of Oktoberfest.  The activities, food, libations, and music is a great take in at this time of the season.  Soon it will be time to get back to life on the hill and I am excited about the prospects for the year.  I will be bringing the Trailer down from the High Desert this week as my consultations with the Galactic Federation have wrapped up.  I will, again, be setting it up for the Winter next to the corral with all my horse friends who see me off every morning and greet me on my return from the hill every day.  I tell them about my adventures and they listen with knowing eyes, but I am sure they understand.  Be sure to get your copy of Snowbird Secrets – available by clicking on the cover art at the top of the page- which will go a long way to the pre season conditioning.  IBBY!!
